Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Vietnam announced the Earth Hour 2010 programme in HCM City on March 3.
Under this Earth Hour 2010 programme, buildings and hotels in HCM City will turn off their systems of decorative lights and other electrical equipment from 8pm to 9pm on March 27, 2010.
In front of the Saigon Opera House, an art performance in candles, a photo exhibition and a painting contest about Earth House will take place, anticipating the participation of about 5,000 people.
This is the second time HCM City has taken part in Earth Hour on a larger scale than the previous occasion, showing the city’s efforts in the fight against global climate change.
Also, in an exchange with the goodwill ambassador of Earth Hour, film shows on this event and other information programmes will be held from March 20-27.
With the slogan “Small action for big change”, Earth Hour 2010 not only mobilises the world to switch the electricity off for one hour but also increases public awareness of the need to save energy and decrease environmental pollution.
