The Da Nang Students Association on Sunday worked with GreenViet Biodiversity Conservation Centre (GreenViet) to kick off the GreenRace 2022 to raise funds for social projects in the aspect of environmental education based on direct experience of nature in Da Nang and Quang Nam Province.
The event is taking place in the city until December 18, and it sees the participation of nearly 500 runners who are college students and school pupils.
Each kilometre from the race’s attendees will fetch donations of at least VND1,000 from sponsoring companies in raising funds.
Athletes are allowed to run on their own localtions suitable for their personal conditions but they are required to run over a minimum distance of 60km during 12 consecutive days.
Funds raised will be used to expand 30ha of forest area for grey-shanked douc langurs in Tam My Tay Commune, Nui Thanh District, Quang Nam Province, plant additional 20,000 trees in big cities as part of the ‘One Million Trees Plantation’ project which aims to grow one million trees in Da Nang, Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh from 2020-2030, as well as offer free environmental education on Da Nang’s Son Tra Peninsula to 1,000 disadvantaged children.
