More than 3.6 million international visitors to Vietnam in 2022

(TITC) - According to the General Statistics Office (GSO), in 2022, Vietnam welcomed 3.66 million international visitor arrivals, of which the Korean market accounted for the largest proportion with 26.4%.

Accordingly, there were 701.1 thousand international visitors to Vietnam in December 2022, an increase of 18.5% compared to the previous month, the highest since the beginning of the year. The markets with good growth were Singapore (up 68.4%), Malaysia (+42.9%), South Korea (39.7%), and Thailand (+25.4%).

In the whole year of 2022, over 3.66 million international visitors traveled to Vietnam. Some markets had a good recovery compared to 2019, such as Cambodia (88%), Laos (79%), and India (82%).

RoK is the top country, India has impressive growth

In 2022, South Korea is largest source market of Vietnam tourism, with 965.4 thousand arrivals, accounting for 26.4% of the total number of international visitor arrivals. The US ranked second with 318.2 thousand arrivals (8.7%).

In the top tourist source markets of Vietnam, Southeast Asia region includes Thailand (202.2 thousand arrivals, ranked 3rd), Cambodia (200.9 thousand, 4th), Singapore (178.9 thousand, 5th), and Malaysia (170.9 thousand, 7th).

In particular, the potential market of India has very impressive growth. In 2022, the total number of Indian visitors to Vietnam reached 137.9 thousand arrivals, ranking 9th out of 10 tourist source markets of Vietnam. The average growth rate of visitors is 45% per month. From July 2022 onwards, the number of Indian visitors per month increased more than the same period in 2019.

In January - December, Asia region accounted for 71% of total international visitor arrivals to Vietnam, followed by Europe (13.9%), America (10.6%), Oceania (4.3%), and Africa (0.3%).

The number of domestic visitors exceeded 100 million trips

For the whole year of 2022, the total number of domestic visitors reached 101.3 million trips, far exceeding the number of 85 million domestic visitor trips in 2019. The domestic market is still the fulcrum for Vietnam's tourism recovery in 2022, given that the international tourism market in Asia is still very quiet.

Tourism receipt is estimated at 495 trillion VND in 2022, reached  66% compared to 2019.
