Ambassador Le Thi Hong Van, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Viet Nam to UNESCO, said this is the second time that Viet Nam was elected as Vice Chair of the committee. The Southeast Asian nation served as vice chair of the committee in the 2011-2015 tenure.

Taking the role for the second time demonstrates Viet Nam's the increasing position and prestige on the international arena, noted Le.

It also shows the international community's support for and trust in Viet Nam's contribution and governance capacity at global multilateral institutions, she added.

As the vice chair, Viet Nam will have favorable conditions to promote the implementation of the Convention's goals and priorities, and take advantage of knowledge, experience and external resources in favor of the country's cultural and sustainable development, said the diplomat.

The 24-member committee is UNESCO's important administrative body for culture, responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Convention, putting forwards measures for its implementation, and providing international assistance in this sector.

The UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, adopted on October 20, 2005, has been ratified by 152 countries to date./.
