Gov't approves Quang Ninh provincial master planning for 2021-2030

The northern province of Quang Ninh strives for an average gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth of 10 percent per year and a GRDP per capita of US$19,000-20,000 in the 2021-2030 period.

These goals were set in the Quang Ninh provincial master planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, which was approved by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha.

Accordingly, the province, covering an area of 6,206.9 kilometers, has 13 administrative units including four cities (Ha Long, Mong Cai, Cam Pha and Uong Bi), two towns (Quang Yen and Dong Trieu) and seven districts (Binh Lieu, Tien Yen, Dam Ha, Hai Ha, Ba Che, Van Don and Co To). 

The locality aims to become a growth pole of the North, a tourist center, a marine economic center as well as a gateway to the Northern key economic region and the whole country with sustainable urban development and a green growth model adapting to climate change and sea level rise. 

By 2025, the locality targets to welcome 25 million arrivals, including 8 million foreigners and the tourism sector's growth will achieve 6 percent per year. 

The population growth rate will reach 1.9 percent per year in the 2021-2030 phase and the locality will have a population of 2.64 million people by 2030. 

Quang Ninh targets to become one of the five leading localities in terms of human development index. 

The province aims to develop environmentally-friendly energy industry, maintain its status as an energy center of the nation and gradually transit to the development of clean energy and renewable energy. 

Quang Ninh will enhance sustainable development of the mining industry, with a focus on the coal industry, contributing to ensuring national energy security. By 2030, the mining output will reach over 49 million tons. 

It will be the key area for the development of border gate economy, connecting with China, Northeast Asian countries and ASEAN while Van Don International Airport will become a logistics center of Viet Nam, and a transit point for Southeast Asia.

The development of maritime economy will be promoted in line with protecting natural resources and ecological environment, ensuring national defense, security and sovereignty over seas and islands and preserving values and historical traditions and cultural identities of the locality.
