The festival, which was recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage, is the largest of its kind in the southern area of Cao Bang Province.
During the event, young men are divided into teams to fight for a ring decorated with colourful fringes that has a firecracker attached on top.
As the ring symbolises luck, happiness and success and the winning team is believed to be blessed with good things in the New Year.
This year’s festival also featured booths showcasing specialties and local goods which meet standard of the One Commune One Product (OCOP) programme.
Various folk games, a lion dance, and a competition of making roasted pig, which is a famous dish of Cao Bang Province, was also held on the occasion.
