(TITC) – On 26th March 2023, at Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve, People's Committee of Gia Vien District (Ninh Binh Province) held a ceremony to launch the campaign "Green Tourism Week" associated with the Project to reduce plastic waste in the tourism industry in 2023.
Signing commitment to observe environmental protection, create a green landscape towards "For green tourism environment"
Gia Vien is a home land of outstanding values in terms of natural landscape, geomorphology and culture. In which, Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve is recognized as the 2,360th Ramsar site of the world, the 9th of Vietnam. The conservation area owns the largest herd of langurs and a “picture of cats scratching (Meo Cao)”, the Vietnam's largest natural picture.
The local is facing to the disposal of non-biodegradable plastic bags and waste from plastic products into the environment.
The campaign "Green Tourism Week" of Gia Vien, Ninh Binh aims to raise the responsibility and awareness of the people and the community in protecting and preserving the environment, and understanding the harmful effects of plastic waste, take action to reduce plastic waste, separate waste at source. It is a chance to promote the potential of Gia Vien's land, friendly, hospitable people and attractive landscapes.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, the representative of Gia Vien district leadership called for the attention and participation of departments, socio-political organizations, the local people, and visitors continuing to take measures to protect the environment and reduce plastic waste.
In which, the actions focus on enhancing propaganda; building and improving operational efficiency and replicating self-management models of environmental protection; collecting, classifying and handling domestic waste and plastic waste at source; organizing a campaign to respond to the movement of environmental sanitation and landscape decoration on streets, village roads, alleys and residential areas; clearing bushes, dredging canals and drainage systems; planting trees, forming flower routes...

At the ceremony, representatives of the Ninh Binh Provincial Tourism Association, local tourism department, relevant sectors in Gia Vien District signed a commitment to observe environmental protection, create a green landscape towards "For green tourism environment".
After the ceremony, a series of programs and activities were organized including giving trash baskets to the boatmen with the message "Carrying green - Breathing well"; exchanging garbage to receive gifts, selling recycled products, creating tree towers under message "What I want to say"; launching the general environmental sanitation of Van Long tourist area.
