Speaking at the event, Mr. Vo Tuan Nhan, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said, the World Biodiversity Day 2023 was launched by the United Nations to call on governments of all countries to quickly turn their commitments into actions to prevent and reverse the decline of biodiversity, towards building a future “Living in harmony with nature” in 2050. Thereby, promote innovative solutions to the biodiversity crisis, bringing it to the forefront of global discussions on sustainable development.

To deal with the challenges and respond to the theme of the World Biodiversity Day 2023, MONRE has suggested ministries, branches and localities give priority to reviewing and perfecting the system of policies, institutions and guidelines of the Party and State on resource management and biodiversity conservation; institutionalise and internalise the contents of international treaties and agreements to which Vietnam is a signatory.

Ministries, sectors, localities and businesses are encouraged to have an action plan on biodiversity to implement the National Strategy on Biodiversity to 2030, with a vision to 2050; ensure compliance with the framework and goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework; continue to carry out activities to conserve wild and migratory birds in Vietnam; at the same time, boost up the implementation of programmes and plans to restore degraded natural ecosystems such as mangroves, coral reefs, seagrass beds and other important wetlands. Thereby, it contributes to effectively implement the goal of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
