First Ramsar Site of Southeast Asia

Boasts a total area of up to 15,000m2, of which 7,100ha is located in the conservation area, this land is a typical habitat of coastal estuarine wetlands including: mangroves and casuarina forests mixed with other sand dunes, swamps, creeks. The park is also an ideal habitat for many species of flora and fauna and rare migratory birds.

Since January 1989, Xuan Thuy has been the first wetland of Southeast Asia to join the Ramsar Convention, also known as "The Convention on Wetlands", an international environmental treaty signed on 2 February 1971 in Ramsar, Iran.

The period from October to April next year is the best time for tourists to plan to visit Xuan Thuy National Park. During this time, thousands of migratory birds of many varieties and species on their way to the south to avoid the cold have chosen Xuan Thuy as a stopover to accumulate energy before continuing their journey.

At its peak, Xuan Thuy National Park is a "station" of birds with nearly 40,000 birds, including 9 species listed in the international red book such as: Spoon beak, Spoonbill, Short-billed gull, Pelicans, Big webbed stork, Indian stork, Yellow billed stork, Chinese white stork…

Noticeably, here, scientists recorded the spoonbill (Scientific name is Platalea Minor) classified as Endangered in the International Red Book (IUCN); only a few dozen individuals appear in the garden each year.
