The yellow pangolin was found in Song Thanh National Park (Quang Nam province) in the largest camera trap campaign in Vietnam, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
According to the Wildlife Conservation Society, the number of pangolin species, including the yellow pangolin, has decreased significantly due to illegal trade.
It is estimated that the population of this species has decreased by 80-90% in the last three decades.
The images of a yellow pangolin found in the wild, like in Song Thanh National Park, are extremely rare.
