The cave was spotted in Dun Mountain area of Ha Long commune, Ha Trung district, during stone mining of Tien Thinh Company Limited.
The newly discovered cave is about 70m long, 50m wide and about 40m high. It has four doors to the east, west, south, and north, and has underground water flowing inside with many beautiful natural stalactites.
According to local residents, Dun Mountain is home to a very sacred cave that was discovered long ago and associated with the two resistance wars against French colonialists and American imperialists in the 20th centuries.
The Thanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently made a field trip and recommended that the value of the cave should be preserved and promoted for local tourism development.
They proposed that stone mining at Dun Mountain be suspended, and the proposal was later approved by the provincial administration.
The Thanh Hoa Center for Research and Preservation of Historical and Cultural Heritage is coordinating with relevant agencies to conduct a comprehensive survey and assessment of the cave’s historical and cultural value.
