Speaking at the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of Son Tra District People's Committee Nguyen Hoang Viet requested associations, unions, agencies, units and localities at all levels to well carry out propaganda and education work to raise public awareness about protecting the environment, biodiversity, and terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
At the same time, the focus should be on maintaining the organisation of meaningful activities and events such as collecting recyclable waste, 'Green, Clean and Beautiful Sundays' movement, classifying waste at source, minimising plastic waste in residential areas, and dredging and clearing sewers, he added.
Vice Chairman Viet encouraged businesses and service providers to invest, produce and use environmentally friendly materials to replace plastic in packaging. Priority should be given to educational activities on environmental protection, love of nature, and biodiversity conservation for pupils and students in the locality, he noted.

The Son Tra District People's Committee also required departments, branches and localities to manage and protect the environment, develop sustainably the sea, and effectively deploy appropriate policies to limit ocean plastic waste and preserve biodiversity.
Greater efforts should be made to effectively handle sources of marine pollution from the mainland, reduce plastic waste, limiting the use of plastic bags and plastic waste to the community, and praise effective examples, models, and methods.
On the occasion, leaders of Son Tra District awarded Certificates of Merit to groups and individuals who won prizes in a drawing contest on environmental protection and biodiversity.
