Government approves Master plan on tourism system for 2021-2030, vision to 2045

(TITC) – On 13 June 2024, the Government issued the master plan on tourism system for 2021-2030, vision to 2045. Accordingly, the Government set the target to turn Vietnam in to an attractive tourist destination by 2025. By 2030, tourism is expected to become a truly spearhead economic sector towards green growth.

Tourism sector sets goals to directly contribute 8 - 9% and 13 - 14% to GDP by 2025 and 2030. By 2030, tourism sector tries to attract 35 million international visitor arrivals, 160 million domestic visitor trips and to create about 10.5 million jobs, including 3.5 million direct jobs.

Remarkably, by 2030, 100 percent of tourist areas and sites, tourist accommodation establishments and other coastal service businesses will not use single-use plastic products and non-biodegradable plastic bags.

During 2021 – 2025 period, recovering traditional source markets, combined with attracting emerging markets such as India, Middle Eastern countries. While 2026 - 2030 period, maintaining and expanding popular markets: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, North America, Russia and Eastern Europe, Oceania; towards increasing market segment of customers with high expenditure ability.

Regarding tourism product development orientation, according to the plan, it will optimally harness marine and island tourism resources, cultural heritage, and cuisine to develop competitive tourism products, etc.; Focus on linking tourism with cultural industry and developing the night-time economy.

The planning identifies the development of Vietnam's tourism spaces including: 06 tourism regions, 03 growth poles, 08 driving areas, 05 main tourism corridors, 11 tourism centers; forming 61 potential locations to develop into national tourist areas.
