Built as the ancestral home of the Duong family, who settled in southern Vietnam in the late 18th century, this historic house has been passed down through six generations.
The original structure was built in 1870 by Duong Van Vi, the third generation of the family, with a focus on traditional wooden architecture and ancestor worship. In the early 20th century, the house underwent a significant expansion.
In 1904, after his death, his son Duong Chan Ky continued the construction, and by 1911, the current structure - spanning 6,000 square meters - was completed. It features a fusion of Asian and European architectural styles, from its intricate decorative motifs to the lush feng shui-inspired gardens and ponds that greet visitors at its entrance.
Binh Thuy Ancient House was recognized as a National Architectural and Artistic Monument in 2009 by Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
