Nestled in Phuoc Dong Village, An Hai Commune, Tuy An District, Phu Yen Province, Mai Nha Island lies just four kilometers off the coast of Phuoc Dong fishing village. Its name, “Mai Nha” (meaning roof), comes from the island’s distinct shape, which resembles a roof rising from the sea when viewed from a distance. The island’s towering rock formations have long sheltered the mainland and its people from the fierce waves and storms. Despite its proximity to the mainland, Mai Nha Island has retained its pristine charm, making it the perfect escape for tourists seeking fresh experiences amidst untouched nature.
Mai Nha Island is home to vibrant coral reefs that stretch along its coast, making it one of the most diverse coral ecosystems in the country. Tourists can dive into the crystal-clear water, where the deeper they explore, the more colorful and lively the underwater world becomes. The strong ocean currents also make this area rich in marine life, offering a variety of valuable fish and shrimp species.
Many tourists choose to camp on Mai Nha Island to experience its serene landscapes
Despite its natural wonders, Mai Nha Island remains untouched by large-scale tourism development. A few small shops have recently opened to cater to visitors, but the island has kept its raw beauty intact. Travelers can explore the island on a one-day trip or opt to camp overnight. The front side of the island, which faces Phuoc Dong fishing village, is popular for its soft white sand, clear water, and stunning sunset views-ideal for swimming, kayaking, or simply relaxing.
In contrast, the back side of the island is rugged and perfect for adventurers. It features rocky beaches, deep caves, and is an excellent spot for fishing. This side is also known for its peaceful ambiance and breathtaking sunrise views, making it a perfect retreat for those seeking solitude.
The island’s lush green grass blankets the landscape, adding vibrant colors to its untouched scenery. Between the rocky formations, clear seawater creates pristine natural pools, further enhancing the island’s serene charm.
The best time to visit Mai Nha Island is from April to August when the sea is calm, and the weather is perfect for outdoor activities. From September to April, rougher seas make exploration more challenging.
