Quoc Dan, an artist from Quang Nam, has just had an exhibition titled Scrap Species in Ho Chi Minh City. Scrap Species was really impressive due to its material: recycled plastic waste.

The artworks at the exhibition are in human-like figures made from everyday plastic waste, including old TVs and packaging, to highlight its environmental consequences.
An artwork at the exhibition
These artworks evoke emotional responses from viewers as they realise their past indifference towards the waste they create. Quoc Dan hopes the exhibition will prompt reflection and a gradual awareness of the environmental impact of plastic waste.
Quoc Dan and his artwork
Under a common title, "Scrap Species," the artworks at the exhibition make viewers think of their relationship with waste, reflecting on its impact across time.
By considering waste as a species, Quoc Dan seeks to raise human awareness of waste, making waste more relatable, and encouraging people to reduce their harmful waste. Scrap Species highlights how waste continues to coexist with humanity as long as it is still produced and discarded.
Another artwork at the exhibition
After this exhibition, Scrap Species is expected to return to Quoc Dan’s workshop in Hoi An (Quang Nam). He hopes to hold exhibitions in his hometown and Ha Noi. Then, the collection will travel to Taiwan to inspire businesses with environmentally impactful products.
Quoc Dan’s artwork
Besides, the collection aims to evoke interest in a form of art that, while not new, is currently receiving special attention from both Vietnam and the world.
Another artwork by Quoc Dan
Quoc Dan chose plastics for the first exhibition of Scrap Species because, sociologically, it is a widely used material with haunting colours. He plans to develop Scrap Species with more materials. Quoc Dan wants to use his artwork to amplify the voice of Scrap Species.
