Quang Binh to promote tourist potential of Chim Island

Update: 17/11/2010
Chim (Bird) Island is located 70km north of Dong Hoi City. It is said that the name of the island was given by a foreign explorer while discovering the island some 100 years ago.

Gio (Wind) is another name of the Island where is home to precious bird species as gulls, swallows, swifts… Tourists can reach Chim Island by two ways: 4 hours by boats from Nhat Le – Dong Hoi seaport or 2 hours by boats from Canh Duong seaport (Quang Trach District).

The island is covered with low, bushy clumps and sharp and bumpy rocks of all sizes. Standing on the peak of island, you can enjoy splendid scenery of the surrounding sea, hills and mountains, listen to buzz sound of the waves crashing into the cliffs and beautiful songs of the birds.

The landscape of Chim Island remains wild, primitive and untouched. Tourists will be attracted not only by charming beauty of nature but pure and fresh environment on the island, beside exciting tourist spots. In spite of significant tourist potential, the island is far from famous on tourist maps.

The reason for this unpopularity could be cited as: the island is distant off shore; traffic is not convenient enough. In addition, tourist potential of the island has not been fully exploited as well as not been widely promoted.

Visitors to Chim Island could have chance to discover neighbouring tourist islands in the north of Quang Binh Province, including Vung Chua, Yen Island,…

Once receiving adequate investment and reasonable development policies, Chim Island would become an ideal destination for nature lovers, domestic and oversea scientists to study unique fauna and floral system in the area.
