Dong Nai boosts environmental protection

The southern province of Dong Nai has approved a master plan on environmental protection to prevent and mitigate environmental pollution and degradation in industrial zones and urban areas.
Under the plan, 8 environmental protection projects with a total investment capital of over VND 161 billion will be implemented.
The projects focus on the drainage water system and urban wastewater treatment system, safe water and environmental protection in rural areas, and environmental protection in the Dong Nai River catchment. They also aim at enhancing the provincial environmental observation capacity and capacity of responding to environmental problems, especially oil spills.
According to the plan, by 2010, 100 percent of industrial zones and 30 - 40 percent of the urban areas in the province will have wastewater treatment systems of environmental standards; 80 percent newly-built factories will apply clear production technologies and install advanced waste treatment equipment.
