Local kids paint non-smoke environment

Update: 02/01/2009
Two young pupils, one from Ha Noi and the other central Nghe An province, were awarded with special prizes on Jan 3, 2009 for winning a drawing competition for kids, which calls for an environment without cigarette smoke.

Twenty other prizes were awarded, including four first prizes and four second prizes.

The competition was launched in May, 2008 to mark the World No Tobacco Day, and has been massively attended with more than one million pictures drawn by kids nationwide, said the organising board.

Apart from raising awareness of how harmful tobacco smoke is, the contest aims at looking for and developing children’s talents of drawing, it said.

Through their drawings, young contestants send messages that they do not want to stay with tobacco smoke, such as “Make the air fresh for children”, and “Keep smoke out of school”.
