The People's Committee of Quang Nam Province has just received nearly € 1,8 million from the Germany's Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety through a project named "Annamites Carbon Sinks and Biodiversity" in Sao La Conservation Area located in Dong Giang and Tay Giang districts, Quang Nam Province.
The project targets to enhance forest management and restore buffer area; reduce CO2 emission; increase the diversity of mammals; sustainable use natural forest as well as improve local community-living.
Sao La (Pseudoryx nghetinhensis)- a wildlife species at risk of extinction living was first discovered in the central province of Ha Tinh in 1992.
It is now listed in the Vietnam Red Book of endangered species due to quick decrease in their population.
On Feb, 16th 2011, the People's Committee of Quang Nam Province had released decision to establish Sao La Conservation Area's Management Board aiming to protect this rare species.
