Marine environment and resources research enhanced

Update: 10/02/2012
Ministries, industries and localities should enhance the study of the marine environment and resources (MER) to come up with solutions and measures to effectively utilize their potential.

Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the State Steering Committee for the Marine Resource and Environment Baseline Survey, Hoang Trung Hai, urged this at a meeting in Hanoi on February 6 to promote MER baseline surveys and management.

The meeting also reviewed the 2006-2011 period in the overall scheme for MER baseline surveys and management with a vision to 2020, according to the Prime Minister’s Decision No.47/2006/QD-TTg.

Deputy PM Hai acknowledged the positve results of the baseline surveys and asked the Steering Committee Office to complete its organisation, task assignment and mechanism for communication among the members.

Agencies relevant to the Steering Committee should focus on evaluating and promoting the project results, he said.

He also asked the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, as a standing agency, to establish inter-industry groups to review and resolve issues related to the project.
