A conference was held in Hanoi on July 19, 2011 to seek opinions to finalise the set of criteria and related documents for the certification of Green Lotus – a label for sustainable tourism – for accommodation establishments in Vietnam.
“Green Lotus” brand was created and planned to be apply to Vietnam with the purpose of protecting the environment in tourism activities and encouraging operators of tourism accommodations to develop sustainable tourism development.
Green Lotus label for accommodation establishments will primarily base on such criteria as effective use of resources and energy, waste treatment system, green space, quality and hygiene foods and environmental hygiene.
This set of criteria is built from opinions collected in a series of surveys in accommodation establishments in Vietnam, tourism specialists, and similar criteria from in many countries.
The label is expected to be granted from in early 2012 and the first to be affected will be 3-5 star hotels before applying on a larger scale.
