Binh Dinh has potential for wind power

Update: 11/02/2009
Fuhrläender AG was selected to provide turbines for Mien Trung (central) wind power plant in Nhon Hoi Economic Zone. Fuhrläender AG’s marketing manager in Vietnam Van Hung Anbert talks more about the wind power industry in his visit to Binh Dinh.

Could you brief on Fuhrläender AG?

Fuhrläender AG is one of four leading wind energy turbine manufacturers in Germany. Our products are now sold in nearly 40 countries, including Vietnam. We are the supplier of turbines for first wind power plants in central provinces of Binh Thuan and Binh Dinh.

As an expert on wind power, what do you think about the potential of wind power in Vietnam and Binh Dinh?

I’m a Vietnamese. I studied in Germany 20 years ago, majoring in wind power as I know Vietnam with a long coast has the potential for wind power development.

I hope that my knowledge will be useful in Vietnam. Vietnam’s potential for wind power is very great, according to experts. It is 200 times bigger than the capacity of Son La hydroelectric plant which is now under construction.

Binh Dinh is one of provinces having the great potential for wind power in Vietnam thanks to its 100-km coast.

How about the Fuhrläender AG’s supply of facilities in Vietnam?

Fuhrläender AG has operated in Vietnam since 1998. At present, as I said above, Fuhrläender AG is the supplier of turbines for wind power plant projects in Binh Thuan and Binh Dinh.

Many countries are now concerned with the environmentally friendly energy. Nuclear power plants have been gradually closed in many developed countries. The development of renewable energy sources is now their first priority.

As mentioned above, Vietnam has the great potential for wind power. We, therefore, hope to not only provide facilities but help Vietnam train the human resources and transfer technology.

Binh Dinh is on our list; thus, we selected four Binh Dinh people to attend a training course in Germany. They are expected to contribute to the development of wind power in Vietnam.

How about wind power plant projects?

We planned to build a plant manufacturing turbines from 1.5 MW to 3 MW in Vietnam, hoping to cut prices and create more jobs.

Fuhrläender AG also saw many advantages in Vietnam, such as cheap human resources and well developed mechanics.

We are now considering the location to build the plant. Among provinces of Binh Dinh, Ninh Thuan, and Binh Thuan, Binh Dinh has remarkable advantages like big ports or many vocational training schools.
