Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has urged the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong to make the most of its tourism and agricultural potential, especially industrial plants like coffee, tea, vegetables and flowers to expand the export market.
At a working session with provincial authorities on December 7, Trong said Lam Dong holds an extremely important strategic location in terms of socio-economics, defence, security and diplomacy in the region and the country. Besides, the locality also has advantages in tourism, agriculture, processing industry and mining development.
Trong hailed the province’s proposal to transform Da Lat into a tourist and resort city of national and international scale. He suggested the province build new rural areas in combination with reducing poverty in a sustainable manner, expanding the high-quality agriculture model and increasing external links to expand markets for its products.
He stressed that the province needs to better manage forests and plantations by reforming mechanisms and policies, and devise a sound management model to improve production and trading efficiency.
The Party leader requested Lam Dong further explores the Politburo’s Resolution No. 28 concerning State-owned farms and plantations to shape an appropriate model for the management and use of land.
Home to various ethnic minorities, Lam Dong needs to concentrate on poverty reduction, providing care for those who once rendered services to the country, human resource training and protection of ecological environment, Trong said.
On the occasion, Trong visited and presented gifts to 80-year-old Tran Thi Dat, 80, in Trung Ha hamlet and Tran Van Mui, a farmer in Thanh Tri hamlet. He also visited Xuan Huong Cooperative, a producer of vegetables in Da Lat city.
Earlier, Trong paid a working visit to Dong Thanh commune of Lam Ha district, where most of the population are migrants from Hanoi.
