On January 16, 120 international and Vietnamese volunteers collected garbage in fishing villages and the coast of Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh Province. This is part of the campaign to protect the environment of the world's natural heritage.
Volunteers from 25 countries participated in the Week for Ha Long Bay from January 13 to 19. Before collecting rubbish at fishing villages and the beach on January 16, they had talks on environment with local people.
120 volunteers divided into small groups. Their “luggage” was black plastic bags, gloves and gifts for the children in fishing villages.
The group to Vung Vieng fishing village was carried by local people by bamboo boats to pick up rubbish in the bay. Each boat had two volunteers.
Muhammad Fariz Zaidi, a Malaysian student and Tran Thi My Hanh, a student of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics showed their “booty.”
The remaining groups collected waste along the coast.
Erik Button (blue) participated in the campaign to have the opportunity to visit this world heritage and meet new friends. While waiting for college admission, this British boy who now lives in Italy goes to Vietnam as a volunteer. After this campaign, Button will continue exploration of Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia before returning home.
