Exhibition “Worlds of paper and wood” opens in London

Update: 09/09/2013
An exhibition titled “Worlds of paper and wood”, a preview of Asian Art London featuring a group exhibition of contemporary Vietnamese fine art curated by Raquelle Azran, was opened at the Emmanuel Fremin Gallery on September 5 in New York.

The exhibition displays the works of Dinh Thi Tham Poong, Vu Thu Hien, Phung Pham, Trinh Tuan, Dinh Hanh and Francoise Ben Arous.

Never confrontational or aggressive, Vietnamese art is a lyrical, serene and intriguing moment of beauty in time.

The using of handmade rice paper and traditional lacquer painting with contemporary artistic techniques bridges the temporal worlds of past and present like spans the cultural divide of East and West.

The paper is hand-crafted in traditional craft villages, using a centuries-old technique. The lacquer is distilled from the sap of an indigenous Asian tree, and layered and polished to produce shimmering effects of shade and colour.

The exhibition will last until September 12./.
