Vietnam, Germany join hands in oceanography

The Nha Trang Oceanography Institute and a team of German scientists are carrying out a joint research project in the mouth of Mekong River and the upwelling in the southern central region. The research project is concentrating on the coastal area from Ninh Thuan to Ca Mau and is under a Vietnamese-German protocol on marine research for the 2009-2010 period.

The project aims to study environmental and ecological characteristics of the Mekong river mouth to help assess and forecast the area’s natural resources.

The Ministry of Resources and Environment, the Marine Natural Resources and Environment Institute, the Department of Vietnamese Waters and Islands, Hamburg University and the German Baltic Sea Research Institute are also taking part in the research project.

The research project will last until December 2010.
