Rare species make home at southern nature

Update: 16/06/2009
Many rare species of animals, birds and fishes have made their home at the Lung Hoc Hoang Nature Reserve in southern Hau Giang province, said its Director Nguyen Hoang Tho. Tho named several species listed in the World Red Book among 206 species of animals, reptiles and birds inhabiting in the reserve. They include the hairy nose otter (Lutra sumatrana) and box turtle (Cuora amboinensis).

The 2,800 ha nature reserve, which used to be known as the fish basket of the Mekong delta region, boasts a fresh submerged water ecosystem. It is also home to 330 flora species.
