The Vinh Cuu Nature Reserve in southern Dong Nai Province’s Vinh Cuu District has signed an agreement with Tetra Pak Viet Nam to replant and tend 1.6ha of forestland.
Under the plan, Tetra Pak Viet Nam, which manufactures milk and drinks packaging, will replant more than 600 new trees in the Vinh Cuu Nature Reserve.
Five years
The company will tend the saplings for five years before handing the trees over to the reserve. Tetra Pak Viet Nam has also donated VND60 million (US$3,370) to help upgrade and purchase equipment for students’ dormitories located in the area.
Peter Logan, managing director of Tetra Park Viet Nam, said that replanting the forest aims to recreate natural resources for younger generations. The company has also organised environmental awareness programmes targeting students in HCM City schools.
Tetra Park Viet Nam is the second company to sign a forest replanting agreement with the Vinh Cuu Nature Reserve after Intel Corporation, which replanted 1.8ha of the forest in the beginning of last year.
The Vinh Cuu Nature Reserve belongs to the special-use forest and historical relics network in Viet Nam. It stands adjacent to the Nam Cat Tien Natural Park in the southeastern province of Dong Nai.
It is a mix of deciduous, semi-deciduous broad-leaves and bamboo forest that is home to 404 species of animals including globally threatened species like peacock and guar.
