At least nine tropical storms are expected to hit the East Sea this year, including four to five strong storms, warned the National Centre For Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Director of the centre Hoang Duc Cuong said at a meeting in Hanoi on February 4 that this year, the number and development of storms would be higher and more complicated respectively than last year.
Therefore, landslides, triggered by storms, would also occur with increasing frequency in mountainous areas and threaten the lives of people living there, he said.
In 2014, five tropical storms battered the East Sea, including three that directly affected the mainland.
