International World Water Day tries to remind people about the significance of fresh water and to promote sustainability for fresh water resources' management.
The first proposal for the establishment of this day was made in 1992 during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). World Water Day was officially assigned to 22 March in 1993 by the United Nations General Assembly.
The event includes official and milestone events as well as many other events organized by various stakeholders around the world.
Each year World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater. For 2015 this will be: Water and Sustainable Development.
The year 2015 provides an important opportunity to consolidate and build upon the previous World Water Days to highlight water's role in the sustainable development agenda.
The worldwide celebration of World Water Day will take place in New Dehli, India.
