A workshop on the green economy in Vietnam was organized by the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics in collaboration with the Economy and Environment Program for Southeast Asia (EEPSEA).
Many participants expressed that the perception of leaders, public officials, business and society on the green economic growth is not so high, lack of priority for long-term growth. Officials should build action plans by themselves and implement at the local level where the knowledge of green economy and ability, qualifications and experience of the officials about green growth management model is very limited.
Therefore, mechanisms to encourage people and businesses to invest more towards cleaner production are essential. The enterprises in the important sectors in the region should be supported by the investment incentive policies related to the green growth.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trong Hoai – Vice Rector of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics said that in the Mekong Delta there is about 30% of businesses reporting about information related to environmental activities, approximately 28% of enterprises applying cleaner production processes.
