Vietnam hosts the 21st Meeting of the Mekong River Commission Council

According to the Vietnam’s Mekong River Commission (MRC) Standing Office, the twenty-first meeting of the MRC Council shall be held on 15th and 16th January in Hanoi. The participants include four countries: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand.

The meeting shall be chaired by Vietnam Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Minh Quang, with the role as Chairman of Vietnam MRC, Chairman of 20th MRC Council 2014-2015. At the meeting the participants will discuss and examine the reports on: Budget plan 2015; researching progress on sustainable development and management of Mekong River Basin, considering to impacts of major hydropower plants.

Besides, the meeting shall discuss on: The consultation progress of Don Shahong hydropower project; implementing and updating progress of the Basin development strategy based on the master plan of water resources management; preparing progress of the plan for period 2016-2020; and transferring progress of management functions of the Basin.
