A trans-Vietnam cycling tour to publicize environmental and wildlife protection set off from Hanoi’s Back Thao Park on June 29. The tour, “Journey along Truong Son Range,” was organized by the Vietnam Nature and Environmental Protection Association, Thua Thien-Hue Province’s Centre for Children and Youth, and the Cycling Club for Environment C4E.
This is the second such tour, which was held last July.
The 35 day-tour aims to raise public awareness of environmental concerns and encourage the community to join environmental protection projects, particularly those related to forests and wild animals, as well as preventing climate change.
The tour is also a part of many activities to mark the 50th anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh Trail.
Starting from Hanoi, the cyclists will travel down Vietnam and finish in Ho Chi Minh City on August 5.
Sixty volunteers have joined the tour, among them are a 70 year-old person and a 16-year-old.
Environmental campaigns will be launched in provinces and cities where the volunteers cycle through, including Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Kon Tum and Dak Lak.
Historian Duong Trung Quoc and Miss Vietnam 2006 Mai Phuong Thuy will be environmental ambassadors during the tour.
