Mobilization of international funds for water supply projects in Vietnam

This guidance was given by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam in a meeting with Ministries and Sectors to strengthen capacity of inter-sector collaboration and international cooperation in controlling water quality in households.

According to statistic data of Ministry of Health, the annual water shortage affects at least 1 million Vietnamese. The statistic over the last 4 years also showed that there are about 6 million people getting the diseases related to clean water shortage. The cost to handle with these diseases is about USD 20 million. Therefore, providing water with sufficient quantity and meeting quality standards for residents in urban and rural areas is one of the most prioritized policies of Vietnam’s Party, Government, and State.


The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the treatment and management of water quality over the countries is still limited. Thus, the governmental agencies need to strengthen the collaboration in reviewing related legal documents to manage water quality. He said that Vietnam is always willing to receive further assistance from international organizations and donors in water supply projects.
