Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee has decided to establish a marine protected area on Ly Son Island. The MPA is in the Viet Nam system MPA planning to the year 2020 approved by Prime Minister.

The MPA has a total area of 8,000 hectares, of which more than 7,000 hectares of sea water surface, is divided into three functional areas: strictly protected areas, ecological restoration zones, development zones and belts guard.
In the protected areas, the authorities will carry out conservation of coral reef ecosystems, algae, seaweed, breeding and spawning grounds and aquatic species living in the area.
