(TITC) – Aiming to raise people’s awareness of poaching rhinos for their horns and calling the community to take action in protecting rhinos around the world, the Red River Runners (RRR) in partnership with the Education for Nature-Viet Nam (ENV) will hold the 9th annual Song Hong Half Marathon on December 13th, in Ha Noi under the themed “Run for Rhinos”.
This year’s event includes 5km, 10km, and 21km (half marathon) races attracting the attendance of domestic and international runner groups. Specially, the event will also have the participation of runner groups from the foreign Embassies in Ha Noi, non-governmental organizations and ENV’s partners.
The Song Hong Half Marathon 2015 is a chance to show strong commitment in the battle of rhinos protection around the world as well as to prove that Viet Nam has actively been contributing to stop the rhinos’ horn trafficking and consumption.
Last year, more than 400 people participated in the race.
In 2010, the last Java rhino in Viet Nam was killed for its horn. The demand of rhino consumption is a cause leading to thousands of rhino’s death in the recent years. By August, 749 rhinos were killed for their horn in South Africa this year.
