Inititated in August 2013 by Da Nang’s GreenViet Biodiversity Conservation Centre, the "I Love Son Tra" tour around the Son Tra Peninsula is offered to local residents free of charge. The aim is to raise public awareness of the multi-biological values of the Son Tra Peninsula nature reserve, including its population of red-shanked douc langurs.
Over the past 4 years, a total of 50 tours have been held, which together have attracted around 1,000 people. The majority of the participants have been pupils and students from local schools and universities from across the city.
Currently, the free tours start at 2.00pm every Sunday and depart from the GreenViet centre at alley 39/21 Thanh Vinh 1 in Son Tra District’s Tho Quang Ward.
The tour is also ideal for anyone wanting to get far away from the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse themselves in beautiful nature or take photos of memorable moments with their family members or friends.
During the tour, the participants gain an insight into the multi-biological systems on the peninsula, and discover the unique beauty of the various species of plants and animals, including the red-shanked douc langurs. Also, they are encouraged to avoid negative behaviours which could affect the habitats of the animals.
In particular, the participants are encouraged to become involved in collecting rubbish on the peninsula in order to appeal to the whole community to join in efforts to protect the peninsula’s ecosystems through practical activities.
