Update: 09/05/2016
According to the Committee on Science, Technology, and Environment (Viet Nam National Assembly), up to now, Viet Nam has constructed 166 protected areas for fauna and flora species (both on land and under water) to protect habitat of valuable species.

At the same time, strategies, planning, plans on biodiversity conservation for a number of precious species such as: tiger, Asia turtle, elephant, etc.

However, pressure on precious and endangered species is becoming an urgent issue due to their restricted habitat, environmental pollution, disasters, climate change, illegal trading and consuming.

At the present, investigation, supervision and penalty for violation are still limited due to lack of human resources and their poor equipment; light penalty for violation; ambiguous between administrative and criminal penalty, etc.

To eliminate completely the illegal trading and consuming precious fauna and flora species, representative of Department of Biodiversity Conservation (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) said it is necessary to review and unite different regulations; revise legal framework and policies and then eliminate limitation and inconsistence between different legal documents.

Besides, it is needed to develop sustainable livelihood by constructing and encouraging community living in buffer areas to join in protection and conservation of endangered and precious species.
