Bai Tu Long National Park nominated to be 38th ASEAN Heritage Park

The 26th Meeting of the ASEAN Working Group on Nature Conservation and Biodiversity was close. The ASEAN Working Group on Nature Conservation and Biodiversity agreed to nominate Bai Tu Long National Park (Quang Ninh Province, Viet Nam) to be 38th ASEAN’s Heritage Park.

The conference was taken place from May 25 to May 30, 2016, after 5 working days, the delegations attending the conference came from the member countries of ASEAN, the ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB), representatives of partner organizations of ASEAN biodiversity conservation such as GIZ, European Union (EU), the Korean Ministry of Environment, ... have expressed their support and through technical dossier for submission to the Central Executive Committee and the ACB of the ASEAN Summit on Environment (ASOEN) for consideration and decision approval.

 

Located in Bai Tu Long Bay area and adjacent to the World Natural Heritage Site of Ha Long Bay, Bai Tu Long National Park is seen a "treasure" in the biosphere in the northeastern coast of Viet Nam.

 

National Park has a total area of 15.783 hectares, of which sea area account for 9.658 hectares, areas of floating islands account for 6.125 hectares including 1,909 species of flora and fauna, including 72 species and 30 plant species listed in the Viet Nam Red Book.
