A range of activities in response to World Environment Day (June 5) and the Vietnam Sea and Island Week 2017 took place simultaneously in localities throughout the country on June 3.

At the Thien Cam National Marine Tourism Park (Cam Xuyen District), the central Ha Tinh Province held a meeting in response to World Environment Day and the Vietnam Sea and Island Week 2017 (held on a national scale from June 1-8), while launching the Youth Volunteer Summer Campaign 2017.
In 2017, such events aim to raise the awareness of State management agencies at all levels and people of all strata on the strategic position and importance of the sea and islands, in addition to responding to climate change and rising sea levels, as well as using natural resources in an efficient and sustainable way, protecting the environment and honouring the values of biodiversity and oceans for human life.
The programmes also coincide with launching the Youth Volunteer Campaign 2017 under the theme "Youth working together to build new rural areas and civilised cities", targeting marine environmental sanitation activities and responding to climate change.
The organising committee has released 30,000 shrimp seeds in the environment to reproduce fishery resources. An exhibition with photos and materials on Vietnam’s sea and islands, as well as the nation’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos is also being held.
After the launch, more than 1,000 officials and members of Cam Xuyen District Youth Union joined hands to clean the Thien Cam Beach.
* The same day, in Thu Dau Mot City in the southern Binh Duong Province, Binh Duong authorities organised the third Environment Day and presented the Binh Duong Provincial Environment Awards 2017.
The program has taken place with many activities such as the "Talking to the environment" contest, the collective painting "Drawing a green planet" and organising games under the environmental protection theme to create a playground in association with environmental education activities for the community, students and Youth Union members.
The Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit and Medals of Binh Duong Environment Awards 2017 to 15 organisations, communities and individuals who have made outstanding achievements in environmental protection.

* In Dong Hoi City, the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee jointly held a ceremony to respond to World Environment Day and the Vietnam Sea and Island Week 2017.
After the launching, thousands of Youth Union members and delegates from Quang Binh paraded on Dong Hoi streets to raise awareness on environmental protection and conducting environmental sanitation activities on Bao Ninh Beach and the two sides of Nhat Le River.
Within the framework of the programme, the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union launched an idea building contest for "Youth for Environmental Protection and Response to Climate Change 2017" project.
On the occasion, a youth volunteer team participating in environmental protection, tourism promotion and biodiversity conservation in Phong Nha-Ke Bang made its debut. Accordingly, the team will periodically clean up the environment, distribute biodiversity conservation leaflets and participate in tourism promotion for the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.
* The central city of Da Nang on June 3 also held a meeting in response to the World Environment Day at the Ngu Hanh Son (Marble Mountains) Site. It is the opening event for the Month of Action for the Environment, which has drawn the participation of 1,500 officials and locals in Da Nang.
Thousands of local people, tourists, officials and Youth Union members participated in environmental sanitation activities around Ngu Hanh Son, coastal roads and residential areas.
On the occasion, the Da Nang People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to more than 20 collectives and individuals with positive achievements in environmental protection.
* The same activities are also held in Vinh Long, Bac Lieu and Binh Thuan on Saturday.
