A rare tortoise weighing 70kg and nearly one metre in length was released in the wild on Tuesday by the Cồn Cỏ Island Conservation Centre Management Board.
The information was announced by the Quảng Trị Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The tortoise is some 35-40 years old. It was caught in the fishing net of seaman Trần Văn Long in the Vĩnh Linh sea, also on Tuesday.
Upon receiving the information, the Cồn Cỏ Island Conservation Centre Management Board gave instructions to Long to release the tortoise.
It is the eighth tortoise successfully rescued by the Cồn Cỏ Island Conservation Centre, so far, this year. — VNS
