Around 500 delegates attending the on-going APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting will be presented Hoi An paper lanterns as souvenirs.
The 24th APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting held in Hoi An from October 19-21 welcomes some 500 international and domestic participants, including finance ministers, financial officials, and senior members of international financial institutions, including the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
According to Deputy Chairman of the Quang Nam People’s Committee Le Van Thanh, each delegate will be presented a souvenir gift of a couple of Hoi An paper lanterns.
The lanterns made by a workshop in Hoi An
The paper lanterns were made by a workshop owned by Nguyen Duong Thi Hien in Hoi An Town’s Cam Thanh Ward. Hien said that she was really surprised to be selected to make the lanterns for the APEC delegates. She had to hire 10 more workers to finish the order.
She noted that other kinds of lanterns were only decorated with printed patterns, but for these lanterns, her workers had to draw lotuses, images of Hoi An town and Vietnamese girls in ao dai.
Each lantern is some 30cm high and its frame is made of bamboo from Hoi An.
