On Wednesday, 8th November, the authorities and people of Da Nang continued racing against time to deal with the aftermath of widespread devastating floods caused by typhoon Damrey which swept through central Viet Nam last weekend.

The intention was to help to re-establish normality in the lives of local inhabitants, as well as ensure environmental sanitation and urban landscape during the ongoing APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in the city.
A total of 500 officials and men from the Military School of Military Region 5 enthusiastically helped residents in the floods-ravaged communes of Hoa Chau, Hoa Tien and Hoa Phuoc in Hoa Vang District clean up their localities after flooding. Thanks to the great efforts by the military men, some sections of the flooded street DH409 in the district have already been re-opened.

According to the Son Tra District authorities, a total of over 300 tonnes of waste washed up on the beaches of Tho Quang, Man Thai and Phuoc My in the district have been collected to date by a large number of employees from the city’s agencies and its volunteers.
In a similar vein, also on Wednesday, thousands of local Youth Union members, students and those from relevant agencies cleared up rubbish along Nguyen Tat Thanh Street which runs through the districts of Hai Chau, Thanh Khe and Lien Chieu.
Besides, the major coastal routes of Pham Van Dong, Vo Nguyen Giap, Hoang Sa and Nguyen Van Thoai in the Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts have already been cleaned up.
With regard to relief aid for flood victims, gifts containing food and water bottles from generous donors have been given to a total of about 1,500 residents in flood-hit Hoa Tien Commune.
Meanwhile, 200 cartons of instant noodles and 500 cartons of water bottles in total have been provided for Hoa Quy Commune’s people.
Furthermore, another 110 cartons of instant noodles have also been handed to residents in Hoa Xuan Commune in Cam Le District.
Today, 9 November, all pupils from primary to senior levels in the communes of Hoa Phuoc, Hoa Chau and Hoa Tien started going back to school after disinfectants had been sprayed at their schools in a bid to prevent such epidemics after floods.
