In the framework of the official visit of Polish President Andrzej Duda to Vietnam from November 27th to 30th 2017, Polish Minister of Environment Jan Szyszko visited and had a meeting with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
During the meeting with Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam Tran Hong Ha on November 29th, Minister Jan Szyszko said that Poland had strengths and experience to develop the fields such as environment protection, environmentally friendly and green technologies, waste water treatment and response to climate change... Therefore, Poland would support Vietnam in its current green development.
Minister Jan Szyszko said that Poland would host the Climate Change Conference (COP 24) in the near future. Vietnam is now the leader of the ASEAN climate change team. He assessed the importance of Vietnam’s position and voice in the implementation of the Paris Agreement in the ASEAN region. In the coming time, Poland will send its action plan to Vietnam and other ASEAN countries in line with the objectives of implementing the Paris Agreement.
In the meeting, Minister Tran Hong Ha thanked for the valuable help that the people of Poland had given to Vietnam for its development. The Minister said that many leaders and officials of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment had studied and researched in Poland, and always highly appreciated the traditional friendship with Poland.
The Minister noted that Vietnam and Poland had great potential for cooperation in the field of natural resources and environment. Particularly, climate change is a strength of Poland that Vietnam needs to learn. The Minister highly appreciated Poland’s technology and experience in the field that Mr. Jan Szyszko was managing, especially the rigorous financial mechanism. Vietnam has been studying to build the Vietnam Environment Protection Fund for 13 years and it has been deployed in 63 provinces and cities.
In the coming time, Minister Tran Hong Ha suggested that two sides had more comprehensive sectorial cooperation. Particularly, the priority is the exchange of mechanisms and policies on environment protection and climate change. In addition, two sides will actively support cooperation between agencies, organizations, research centers and universities under the two ministries.
In the meeting, Minister Tran Hong Ha congratulated Poland on its role as the President of COP 24 which would be held in 2018. The Minister shared that Vietnam would work with Poland and other countries in all over the world to implement the commitments of reducing emission, while it would coordinate with other countries which can successfully negotiate the technical guidelines for the implementation of the Paris Agreement and propose to Parties in the COP 24.
On 28/11/2017, Deputy Minister Tran Quy Kien on behalf of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of natural resources and environment with the Minister of Environment of Poland. The Memorandum of Understanding will create a comprehensive framework of cooperation in the corresponding fields that the two Ministries are assigned by the Government and will enhance the cooperation between the two Ministries.
