The central province of Quang Binh has recently discovered 58 more caves, Director of the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park Management Board Le Thanh Tinh announced on December 12.
All the new caves are located in Minh Hoa district, Tinh said, adding that documents on the caves will be handed over to an expert delegation of the British Cave Research Association for further study.
Quang Binh is famous for its caves, mountain scenery and sprawling beaches. Its Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park was recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2003 due to its impressive scenery and archaeological value.
Last year, Son Doong Cave, located in the heart of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, was recognised as the largest of its kind by three international organisations, including Guinness ( based in the UK), the Association World Record (based in Hong Kong) and WorldKings (based in the US and India).
The 1,645m-long cave system, which extends through a mountain, was named one of the most captivating caves on earth by National Geographic as well.-VNA
