The People's Committee of Quang Nam province has agreed to allow the management board of the Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An Biosphere Reserve to receive the project on "Support to strengthen capacity of research, management, conservation and development of biosphere reserve".
The project is funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) of the United Kingdom Research Councils (RCUK), with a total budget of £ 500,000 (approximately 15.68 billion VND) and implemented in four years (2018-2021).
The project is implemented by the management board of the Cu Lao Cham Biosphere Reserve under Hoi An City People's Committee in collaboration with the National Committee for the Vietnam Man and Biosphere (MAB Vietnam) and Centre of Community Development (CCD).
The project will provide training courses to improve the capacity for local officials regarding to: determining the sources of impact on resources of the biosphere reserve, marine space planning, renewable energy from the sea; risks and indicators of happiness of people in the biosphere reserve;quantification of economic values of ecosystems; application of GIS technology for management of natural resources of the biosphere, development of scenarios to change resources; development of sustainable livelihood models in adaptation to climate change.
The People's Committee of Hoi An City is responsible for directing the management board in collaboration with relevant agencies to make plan to implement in detail and strictly comply with the regulations on receiving, managing and using this funding.
