In the morning of May 24, Deputy Minister Vo Tuan Nhan chaired the meeting to review the report on preparation for World Environment Day on June 5, 2018 with the theme "Beat plastic pollution".
According to the plan, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will coordinate with the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the People's Committee of Binh Dinh Province to organize the Launching Ceremony of Environmental Action Month and the activities in respondse to the World Environment Day 2018 in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province, with the theme "Beat plastic pollution", calling for community to change consumption and disposal habits of plastic waste. The program will be broadcast live on the Voice of Vietnam.
Also at the launching ceremony, the Ministry will combine the 4th Environment Press Award to announce and honor journalists who have contributed positively to the natural resources and environment sector in the 2016 – 2018 period.
In addition, the Ministry also organizes the following activities:Implement Meeting for Coordinated MonitoringProgram to supervise the implementation of policies and laws on natural resources exploitation, environmental protection and response to climate change in the Central Region and Central Highlands; Scientific workshop on "Mechanisms and policies to control environmental pollution caused by the use of biodegradable plastic bags"; Organize environmental classes for junior high school students and ecological battery change activities; Propagate and mobilize people and business households to build habits of waste classification at source.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Vo Tuan Nhan listened to the report and guide the content of the program and the plan to launch the "Month of Action for the Environment" and activities to respond to World Environment Day 2018.
Deputy Minister Vo Tuan Nhan affirmed that the launching ceremony of the month of action for the environment and the activities to respond to World Environment Day 2018 must focus on propaganda, advocacy and calling on the community to change their habits toconsume and dispose plastic waste.
The Vice Minister asked the agencies and units to closely coordinate the organization of the month of action for the environment in response to World Environment Day 2018 to ensure effectiveness and feasibility. Activities should attract the attention and active participation of all levels, sectors, localities, organizations, enterprises and the wider community to create favorable conditions for all organizations and individuals to exercise their rights and obligation to participate in environmental protection by concrete and practical action.
