Recent years have seen a growing number of visitors to the Son Tra Peninsula which is considered to be a precious natural gift and a ‘green lung’ for Da Nang. However, the Peninsula is already affected by litter.

Therefore, the Management Board of the Peninsula and Da Nang Tourism Beaches has joined forces with many organisations and individuals to implement voluntary clean-up campaigns on the Peninsula in a bid to make this venue cleaner and more beautiful.
One of the regularly-organised activities is the ‘Clean up Son Tra’ programme.
Jointly organised by the Management Board, the city’s branch of Let’s Do It Viet Nam and other voluntary organisations, the programme is as part of the ‘For a Green Son Tra Peninsula 2018’ campaign.
Accordingly, hundreds of young volunteers have been actively involved in collecting litter along roads leading to the peninsula, the Xanh (Green) Lake, and Bai Da, Da Den (Black Rock Area), and Bai Bac (Northern Beach) tourist sites.
In addition to local pupils and students, the programme has attracted the active involvement of employees from businesses operating in the city, and their children.
Mr Duong Thi Xuan Lieu, Head of the Tourism Management and Exploitation Office, said the monthly ‘Clean up Son Tra’ programme aimed to raise the awareness amongst visitors to the Peninsula, and families and businesses here, about not discarding rubbish in this area in order to ensure its natural environmental sanitation.
Notably, the Management Board is organising the ‘Green Son Tra Week’ programme between 15 and 23 September. The purpose of the programme is to raise the awareness amongst local residents, especially young people, about protecting the environment and tourism resources of the peninsula, and of the city as a whole.
This year’s programme has about 300 volunteers, including 50 foreigners, participating in collecting rubbish at rubbish hotspots on the peninsula.
In addition, the programme features a talk about no-rubbish lifestyle, a photo exhibition, an online photography contest entitled ‘Green Son Tra’, a donation programme to support the environmental protection activities, a ‘Beach Weekend Cleanup’ programme, and a parade of jeep bikes to convey a message of saying ‘no’ to nylon bags on the peninsula.
