German award for Hoi An sustainable urban development

The German award for sustainable urban development is annually given to the organizations, businesses and individuals that make great contributions to environmental protection and sustainable development. This year, the award was firstly given to the global cities that are twinned with German ones, and Hoi An city (Quang Nam province, Vietnam) was chosen as one of the two cities to be honoured.

Hoi An city and Wernigerode (Germany) defeated nearly 30 pairs of opponents to win the award. Besides, each city is donated EUR 30,000 which will be used for their local projects on sustainable urban development.

The twinning relationship between Hoi An and Wernigerode started in 2013. They have had a lot of economic, cultural, educational and environmental cooperation and exchanges; such as the Hoi An lantern festival in Wernigerode, the Wernigerode green road in Hoi An, the German beer festival in Hoi An, the Hoi An labours going to work in Wernigerode, and the nearly EUR170,000 solar power system financed by the Government of Germany in order to serve for the project on travelling by bike in Hoi An.
